After being harassed by immigration officers at the international airport in Mumbai 10 days ago, Shilpa Shetty was detained once again, when she was leaving for Turkey on Tuesday night. The situation was much the same. The authorities told her she couldn’t leave the country as there was a look-out notice for her, she explained she had a Supreme Court reprieve; they refused to believe her until she produced the papers, (which she wasn’t carrying). What followed was hours of questioning and harassment. Again.Shilpa and her mom were also detained on her return to Mumbai from London. “It was so bizarre,” Shilpa exclaims. She says, “It would’ve been perfectly understandable to see the immigration officers doing their jobs well and I’d be the last person to come in the way of authorities doing their duties. But we patiently showed the clearance papers while leaving. And still we were questioned when I returned.”Sounding a little upset, Shilpa said, “How does it feel to be treated so suspiciously in your home after being treated like a queen at an event in a distant foreign country? I guess I am no stranger to being given a raw deal at home, but still it hurts.”Shilpa feels that she is being targetted. She says. “Whether it's an innocuous costume or an innocent kiss I'm being hauled up all the time. Arrest me if you believe I'm guilty of any offence. But I can't walk out of the country each time with a piece of paper in my shivering hands to prove I'm as free to travel as thousands of others, at the airport.”

Devgan will soon be seen in an animated flick called Toonpur Ka Super Hero

Ajay Devgan is the latest actor in B-Town to have turned toon! Says producer Kumar Mangat, “The film, titled Toonpur Ka Super Hero, is being directed by ad filmmaker Kireet Khurana and produced by Sunil Lulla of Eros Entertainment and Big Screen Entertainment (Mangat’s production house). It’s a family adventure with dollops of romance and will feature Ajay, one top heroine and two children.”Something differentThe characters are based in a town called Toonpur (lol!), and the film will be a combination of animated and real-life characters. “Ajay will play himself. I plan to launch the film on July 2. It’s not a film about a superhero, as the title suggests, but something very different,” adds Mangat.He goes on to say that when Kireet narrated the concept, he immediately agreed to produce the film. “He has done lots of animated films and has even designed the Fido Dido cartoon in the 7-Up ad. Toonpur Ka Super Hero will be made at his studio and will be the first 3-D film with animation. It has a budget of Rs 40 crore and we start shooting immediately. It’s a novel idea and when Ajay heard the script he immediately agreed to do it. He is very excited,” says Mangat.Hi-techKireet, Creative Director and CEO of Climb Media Pvt Ltd, is a five-time National Award winner for animation films. “When we narrated the to story to Ajay, he was thrilled. I have written the story along with co-writers Mubeen Farooqi and Raagi Bhatnagar. TKSH will be India’s first 3-D animation film combined with live action,” he says. Khurana’s Climb Media Pvt Ltd has made Dooriyan and Gharaonda earlier. The creator of the award-winning animation series, Adventures of Chota Birbal, he is the founder member and former honorary secretary of India’s largest animation body, TASI. Khurana is also one of the partners in the animation company, 2nz Animation Company.

When Mallika Sherawat refused to let Hansika Motwani share screen space with her in the Mehbooba number of Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap Kaa Surroor, the teenager got back at her by calling her ‘aunty’!

Teenage actress Hansika Motwani and Mallika Sherawat, the two leading ladies in Himesh Reshammiya’s debut film Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee, are at loggerheads. A cold war has been brewing between them for a while now, so much so that they don’t even exchange pleasantries anymore.When Himesh approached Mallika for a role in the film, she made it clear that she didn’t want to share screen space with Hansika in the Mehbooba song. Cooling her heelsA khabru from the set reveals, “Mallika’s nakhras are not new. They’ve now become a part of her professional life. While Himesh abided by her condition for the Mehbooba number, he refused to do away with Hansika in the Teri Yaadon Mein song. Mallika agreed, but reluctantly.”Things between Mallika and Hansika went downhill after Motwani landed up at Mehboob Studio on June 2, to shoot the Mehbooba song. “Himesh had wanted Hansika in the song, but Mallika had laid down her conditions before doing the film. Hansika was ready to shoot when she came on the set but then she was told to cool her heels. Of course, she felt low but did not create a fuss. However, she couldn’t hold herself back from seeing the shoot so she stayed on the set for a long time,” says the khabru.Later, when Hansika and Mallika shot together for the song Teri Yaadon Mein, Sherawat continued to maintain her distance from the young actress. She even refused to shoot pictures with Hansika. “That’s why stills of Teri Yaadon Mein do not have both the actresses together,” says a crewmember.The khabru goes on to add that Mallika agreed to do this role only because she is a big fan of Himesh’s music. “She wouldn’t have done it otherwise because she doesn’t like playing negative roles. She gelled very well with Himesh, who in turn gelled very well with Hansika. Hansika calls Himesh HR, which is also Himesh’s name in the film.”Catty remarkAnd what does she call Mallika? “Oh, don’t even ask! During the Mehbooba shoot, Hansika was talking very loudly to a crewmember about Mallika. Everybody except her heard Hansika say, “Mallika aunty!” Thank god Mallika wasn’t nearby, else fireworks would have exploded that day!” says the khabru.Himesh Reshammiya was unavailable for comment. His film, Aap Kaa Surroor, releases on June 29.

Shilpa Shetty had a harrowing time at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport about 10 days ago, while on her way to the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) function. The emigration authorities refused to let her head for London saying that a `look-out' notice had been issued in her name.A look-out notice is issued in criminal cases and is served at exit points of a country, alerting security agencies to stop the person, in whose name the notice is, from moving out of the country. In Shilpa's case, a court in Rajasthan had issued a look-out notice on the actor in an obscenity case. Shilpa had appeared along with Hollywood actor Richard Gere at a charity function in Delhi some months ago, and TV channels blew it out of proportion when Gere kissed Shetty in a public.

Although the actress moved the Supreme Court and got a relief against the look-out notice, it had obviously not been communicated to the security agencies at the airport.According to sources, when Shilpa reached the CSI airport, she was stopped at the emigration check desk. "We had a look-out notice in Shilpa's name, and there was nothing wrong if the men on duty stopped her," said a senior Mumbai Police official, who did not wish to be named.A desperate Shilpa tried to convince the emigration authorities that the Supreme Court had already granted her relief in the look-out case, but the authorities simply refused to listen to her. They asked her to produce a copy of the SC directive, but Shilpa was not carrying it with her, sources said.The harassment continued for over two hours. It took almost two hours for Shilpa to convince the emigration authorities to let her talk to her father and get a copy of the SC directive. Later, her father reached the CSI airport and furnished a copy of the SC order, following which emigration authorities allowed Shilpa to proceed to UK.Dale Bhagwagar, spokesperson for Shilpa Shetty confirmed the incident. According to him, Shilpa's father, who was also travelling with the actor, was carrying the SC order which he showed to the authorities, after which the actress was allowed to proceed to UK.

This is the strangest combination yet of B-Town actors hooking up! Tabu and Upen Patel were spotted getting real cosy at the Bandra club Poison on Wednesday night. Entree An eyewitness reveals, “Upen had come in with his set of friends. He soon hit the bar and was seen enjoying some drinks. However, in no time he spotted Tabu, who was chilling out with her friends at the club.” Heat waveSources reveal that as soon as Upen saw Tabu, he went up to her and started chatting.“They may not have hung out together before, but from the body language it was clear that they were enjoying each other’s company. Tabu seemed to be a in good mood and was giggling and laughing a lot,” says the source. Onlookers were quite shocked when after a while they saw Upen kissing Tabu. “It wasn’t some random kiss. They seemed to be quite into each other. In fact, they were even seen kissing on their way out of the club!” Paired upWhen asked about the rendezvous with Tabu, Upen says, “Tabu is a senior actor and I respect her a lot. Director Anurag Kashyap made Abraham work 48 hours non-stop because he needed him to look tired for a scene in No Smoking


John Abraham might just find a place in the Limca Book Of World Records thanks to his new film, No Smoking. Recently, director Anurag Kashyap made Abraham work for 48 hours non-stop because he wanted the actor to look weary and exhausted for a particular scene. The only way Kashyap could achieve this with the fresh-faced actor was to ensure he overworked him!Curious According to our source, Anurag wanted to shoot a crucial scene and was thinking about ways to get the best shot from John. After brain storming for a while, he came up with the idea of exhausting him. “Everyone in the unit thought this was impossible for an actor to do, but Anurag didn’t want to give up,” says our source. “He went up to John and told him that he needed to finish a couple of scenes within the schedule and it would be great if he could work non-stop. John is an extremely professional actor, so he readily agreed and Anurag started shooting.” The shoot went on for over 24 hours and John was curious to know when Anurag was planning to wind up the shoot. “He was inside the studio for 24 hours and the technicians too were working alongside to get the desired result. John didn’t complain even once,” says the source.


Two days off
Finally, after 48 hours of non-stop shooting, John become really tired and it showed on his face. That’s when Anurag decided to shoot the scene he’d been overworking John for. “Everyone was happy with the result and Anurag gave John two days off after that!”Kashyap admits he was a bit inhuman with John. “I’ve heard all sorts of scary stories where stars refuse to work beyond eight hours, and I was just wondering if John would agree. But he was really sporting. It’s a fact that John stayed awake for 48 hours and looked really tired. He worked really hard for the film and that will come across convincingly on screen,” says Anurag. Produced under the banner Big Screen Entertainment banner and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures, No Smoking also stars Ayesha Takia, Paresh Rawal, Ranvir Shorey and Sanjay Singh. Vishal Bhardwaj has composed the film’s music with lyrics by Gulzar.

Sivaji is the boss in US

First time in the history of Indian cinema, Tamil film Sivaji will make an international release in 20 theatres across the US on the same day

Sivaji, one of the most talked about Tamil films starring Rajnikanth, will make its international release in 20 theatres across the US on June 15.

However, Rajni fans in Bangalore are in for a disappointment since the film releases in just four theatres across the city. The dubbed version of Rajnikanth's magnum opus along with director Shankar and music director A R Rahman will also be released simultaneously in Telugu.

Much needed vacation
After every film, Rajni heads to the Himalayas for some rest. And this time too, after the two-year-long shooting of the film, he went to visit the temples in Badrinath, Kedarnath and the Babuji Cave. After a hiatus of 38 days, he is finally back in Chennai. Soon after reaching Chennai, he headed to AVM studios and requested a screening of the film. Immediately a screening was arranged for Rajni, his wife Latha, daughters Aishwaryaa and Soundarya and son-in law Dhanush. He seems to have said just one word after the screening, "Fantastic." Meanwhile director Shankar too has left for Canada with his family for a vacation.

Under the hot sun
Eager fans are waiting in long queues in Chennai and Bangalore to pre-book the tickets. In Chennai the bookings are not available at most of the theatres for almost two weeks after the release.

Breaking records
Typically, even hit films with leading actors have about 130 to 140 prints. Rajnikanth's previous film Chandramukhi had more than 160 prints. However, Sivaji has already broken a few records having about 600 prints.

TV rights
The yet to be launched Kalaignar TV channel has already bought the satellite rights of Sivaji, which will be telecast three years after its release.

Rajni's Chandramukhi breaks all records

Rajnikant's film Chandramukhi breaks a record held for 73 years by running for 800 days in cinema halls

Rajnikant's Tamil film Chandramukhi has been running in the theatres for as many as 800 days already and it still has an audience. The demand for this film has broken the record created by the previous all time hit Haridas, which starred the late Thyagaraja Bagavathar. The film was released in 1944 ran in the theatres for 770 days.

To celebrate this new record created by the Chandramukhi team, Shivaji Productions has planned a grand party on June 25. Team members Ram Kumar and Prabhu approached the chief minister of Tamil Nadu to be the chief guest.

Of late, a film crossing its 50-day mark itself is a tough task, what with all the innumerable number of problems faced by the industry. For a film to complete as many as 800 days is a big deal.

After the failure of his earlier film Baba, Rajinikant was desperate for a blockbuster. When he watched Kannada film Apthamitra, which starred Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Arvind and Soundarya, he decided it would be the right film for his comeback. And the remake, Chandramukhi, proved him right too.

Apthamitra too happens to be a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. The film was directed by Fazil in the year 1993 and starred Mohan Lal, Shobhana and Suresh Gopi.

Chandramukhi

-Rajinikant portrayed the character Saravanan as a psychiatrist.
Prabhu and Vadivelu also pitch in with their accurate comic timing. Jothika's best work is seen in her role in Chandramukhi.
-The use of the famous dialogue Laka laka laka in complete Rajinikant style is the ultimate in the movie.

All about Haridas

The multi-talented late Thayagaraja Bhagavathar played the lead in Haridas. T R Rajakumari played his leading lady.
At that time, there was a footage restriction (of about 11,000 ft) on films because of the war.
The Royal Talkies distributed the movie and the film created the record box office hit in Tamil Nadu. The film ran for more than 110 weeks in Chennai.

Multi lingual
There's got to be something about this film. While it's Kannada version, Apthamitra, did extremely well, Chandramukhi in Tamil and Telugu fared well too. Now, director Priyadarshan has decided to remake this film in Hindi.

The film is called Bhool Bhulaiya and stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja.
