Shilpa Shetty dating Imran Khan?

Shilpa Shetty insists that the new man in her life is not former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan.
Rumours of a romance between the two sparked off after they were reportedly matched up at Elizabeth Hurley's Indian wedding to Arun Nayer earlier this year (07).
However, Shilpa has laughed off the rumours and insisted that she only met the handsome cricketer-turned-politician ‘exactly a minute’.
"These rumours are so baseless. I met Imran for exactly a minute, I think," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
"I went to the party as it was thrown by a very dear friend of mine," she added.

While Shilpa has never been married, Khan was wed to British heiress Jemima Goldsmith from 1995 to 2004.
Khan, who is a good friend of British beauty Elizabeth Hurley, has previously been romantically linked with Susannah Constantine, an award-winning English fashion guru, fashion and style advisor.

Salman Khan to wed? in HT

Wedding bells for Salman Khan?

They will, they won't. Who knows?
They may According to our source, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are all set to tie the knot.
Come December and the industry will witness yet another gala wedding. Says an insider, "The wedding is scheduled for Christmas but the preparations have already begun." The guests list? "The whole industry will be invited for the same," he informs.
Salman and Katrina have been spotted together at many occasions but both of them choose to keep mum when asked about their relationship.
Last heard, Jiah Khan lost Boney Kapoor's remake of south Indian hit Pokiri and the chance to act opposite Salman Khan. Reason: The Nishabd girl made a remark on Katrina Kaif.
Good enough reason for others to believe that contrary to what they say, there's more to Salman and Katrina ‘friendship.' And to believe that wedding bells are just around the corner for this lovely couple.
When asked about it, Sallu's brother Arbaaz Khan sounded ignorant. "There is no such thing on the cards as of now.

In any case, Salman is not the guy who would plan anything six months in advance. He believes in doing things at the spur of the moment. You can say whatever you've to but I'd insist these are all speculations. Or, may be, he's keeping it a secret from even his family members."
Cool it man, we didn't say anything!

Tyson fida over shilpa, in HT

The lady luck continues to smile on sultry Shilpa, with her ever-increasing fan list, the recent one being Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight boxing champion.
Tyson, who made his tinsel town debut only recently with the promotional video for Feroze Nadiawala's Fool N Final, now wants to act in more movies and has expressed his desire to work with the glamorous Shetty.

Tyson says "the energy on the sets" of the music video of Fool N Final that he shot in Las Vegas got him to think about trying out more Bollywood work.
But what is it that made him join Shilpa's long list of admirers in the West?
He says "It's her beauty, grace, wit and the way she carries herself" is what made him think of her as the ideal co-star. "There's something about her that can make anyone go weak in the knees", he remarks.
Shilpa's spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar says he is aware of Tyson's wish. "Shilpa is known to have the best physique in Bollywood, while Tyson is known for his physique in the world of boxing. Quite a lethal combination it could be," he comments.
And what kind of role could Tyson play opposite Shilpa? "Obviously he is a little old to be paired with her as her love interest. Maybe he will do just fine as her Big Brother," Bhagwagar remarks in jest.
So forget about kissing Iron Mike! Anyways, after all the hoopla about Richard Gere's kisses, Shilpa is sure to be wary of all that.

Apne review in Mumbai Mirror

Bout of depression
Mayank Shekhar in Mumbai Mirror

Fairly early on in this movie, a desi event-manager and television channel head briefs Dharmendra's retired, boxing Olympic gold-medalist and coach, on his plans of a global boxing champion. If you're interested, he intends to fight a contender each from every continents. The winner would face the reigning king, whose name you hear recurrently thereafter: Luca Gracia. Immediately the final sequence of the film springs to your mind, though you're at least an hour away from the climax. It has to be Sunny Paaji, with his bare, hairy chest knocking out the said (but not yet seen) black beast to a thunderous applause. Since there isn't much else to do here, you wait for the inevitable final bout. It's better than gazing at an uncomfortably fumbling Dharmendra, a poor parody of his younger days. He plays an obsessive, depressed, almost psychotic father. Given half an opportunity to turn on the histrionics, he smashes his knuckles against glass. Back in the day, he had almost made it as the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, but for unjust doping charges levelled against him. He now pines for the same belt that his son could never earn him. The eldest one (Sunny Deol), gave up the sport because there is no money in it in India. If you see the media attention given to boxing in this movie, you would disagree. The younger one (Bobby Deol), meanwhile, has lived with a disabled hand since childhood. He whacks his numb limb in desperation, watching his drunk, depressed dad. This is when he is not dancing with that hand sewn to the pockets of his jacket. The house-wives weep abundantly meanwhile. This too shall pass. In a moment to befit movie miracles, the younger son's hand gets cured out of thin air, almost in a jiffy. Bobby's Karan Singh, a singer otherwise, begins to train through the day. He'd never held a glove in his life before. Before you can spell Mohammed Ali, our man is out there challenging the world champion in America: Lucaaa Garciaaa… Finally, the moment has arrived. The younger one suffers an unfair injury. Be certain, the wait is over, and thank the screenwriter, we can all go home. The elder brother, Sunny Paaji, will roar like a lion, if not sting like a bee, or float like a butterfly. But he will do the rest. The movie is Apne Bhai Ka Badla! Works. You get the plot (or its lack thereof). You get the picture. At best there's a word to be spared for some boxing sequences. I noticed a name credited against "boxing choreographer" on posters. This perhaps explains a rare professional touch on this tearful tacky-land. Given the setting, references to Hollywood textbooks (Rocky series, Million Dollar Baby etc) are expected. Especially when a song called Bull's Eye plays in the background, as if it were a tribute to 'Eye of the Tiger' from Rocky 3. But don't let that confound this hinterland movie's genre. This is your family-action flick, an erratic mixture of machismo and melancholy. It means that whenever the ladies and gentlemen of this family are home, they sob their hearts out. On a ring, they knock the rockers off. Pretty much a serious bout of depression all the way, I say.

Aap Ka Suroor, review in Mumbai Mirror

No way!
Mayank Shekhar in Mumbai Mirror

It's been over two years since you've held this newspaper, the film reviews on this page, and a little metre that appears below it every weekend. Most reviews, I suspect, are cursorily glanced for their "star-ratings"; few actually bother with humble efforts beneath those linear constellations.

Yet, I am willing to bet my bottom buck you haven't quite paid attention to what those "stars" against film-titles on these pages literally stand for. Look over it now. Five stars on the indicator suggests a movie that could leave you speechless, at least it did the reviewer. By every measure of success, this one deserves those rarest of the rare ratings, never deflowered since its inception. Truly, I am speechless.

Some have waited this notable moment of world cinema for a while. Most have seen the excitable promos of Bombay auto-rickshaws chasing fast cars in Europe. You pretty much know what to expect. So did I. My two-word report on this monument would still read: No way!

Click on ads and get paid

I just watched the curio, and I am still not certain if I actually watched it. Already, it seems a blurry figment of my own nightmare. When I recover, I may tell you better and more.

But if this is a true story as claimed in the posters, then Himesh bhai, our country singer, is actually the globe's greatest, yet "humble", rock star. He flies a private jet; drives the centre of a huge limo convoy. Goris of Germany just can't get enough of him; neither can Mallika Sherawat. Most women get so intimidated by his status, they don't even entertain a warm thought of him as a harmless dream.

If the story is true again, Himesh bhai is jailed for murdering a reporter, who attempted a television sting-op on him. Of course, that's a carefully cultivated conspiracy.

But never mind that. Never mind his supposed love story. Never mind the precious reason behind his sulk (he lost his laugh on his brother's death). Never mind your mind.

The true, terrible conspiracy in this movie is actually directed against Himesh Reshammiya, the actor. When he is on screen, you'll look at nothing else. Hear his spoken voice that's deliberately dubbed to sound a vague cross between a cow's moo and a horse's nay. Listen to him sing the Gayatri Mantra and the track 'Darde Dil Darde Jigar' solo over a guitar (please do it for me). Watch him awkwardly gesture and aimlessly gaze throughout in a jacket, a baseball cap and half a fool's cap page for a dialogue sheet. Check him out when he smiles once. Ogle at him match Mithun's steps. You'll be convinced the makers of this movie don't like this gentle soul too much. In the annals of pop-cultural history, this will go down as the lamest joke played on one man for this long.

I am told the filmmakers have even considered a sequel to this punishment, were it to pack theatres. Amen! But really, not fair. Last I read, making bad music wasn't a crime.

Tribute to Jeeva, in Sify.com

Trisha on Jeeva
Jeeva’s sudden demise has the entire Tamil film industry in a state of shock. Tragedy struck when the young cinematographer turned director was shooting for his ambitious Dhaam Dhoom in Russia. Moviebuzz spoke to some of the celebrities who respected Jeeva’s work and his style of film making. Here is an exclusive chat with Trisha who is yet to recover from the shock
Says Trisha: “I knew Jeeva from my modeling days when I was 16 years old. In fact, my first ad film was shot by Jeeva in which I posed for the Diwali issue of ‘Ananda Vikatan’ cover. I still remember that I wore a white sari with crackers designs specially made by Aneez (later this sari was called Pattasu Selai) and shot at AVM studio amongst thousands of diyas. Both Jeeva and Aneez helped me with my expressions and how to carry myself in a sari”.
Later when the issue came out, everyone noticed that petite looking young girl with a million dollar smile and Trisha says that Jeeva was the first person to call her up. She still remembers his words: “What are you doing in modeling? You have to enter films and you will make it big”.
Trisha went emotional as she recollects her last meeting with Jeeva at A.M.Ratnam’s birthday bash in Chennai. Said Trisha: “He came up to me and said- You could not do my Unnale Unnale, a role (whish Sada did) that was written keeping you in mind and now in Dhaam Dhoom. But promise me that you will be my heroine in the next project”.
Trisha could never fulfill her desire to do a Jeeva film. The actress got emotional as she spoke about Jeeva- “I couldn’t do both the films as they had long schedules abroad and it clashed with my prior commitments. At our last meeting I told Jeeva , I will be your heroine if you promise to shoot your next film completely in India and he smiled and nodded his head”. Trisha adds that Jeeva was such a jovial, friendly and a calm worker and she would surely miss him.

Suhasini rips Shriya for Sivaji, in sify.com

Suhasini Maniratnam, has started a new television programme “Hasini Pesum Padam”, on Jaya TV (Thursday 9.30 to 10.30 pm) reviewing Tamil films. It is a bold and daring show in which Suhasini points out the plus and minus of each film.
Last week Hasini Pesum Padam featured the review of Sivaji in which she spoke about Shriya the heroine of the film. Suhasini says in the review that Shriya looks good in songs, but can’t emote or perform! Shriya has come in for criticism from Rajnikant fans who feel that she is the weakest heroine cast opposite him!
What made the one-hour programme interesting was that it was quite an honest assessment of the film. She said that the highlight of "Sivaji" is the "star power, charisma and child-like innocence of Rajnikant, plus the technical finesse”. On the downside, she said that the story is weak, nothing new as Shankar has told the same story in Muthalvan.

Deepika Padukone Vs Akshay Kumar! in Sify.com

Model turned actress Deepika Padukone, who comes from an athletic family, will be training hard to match Akshay Kumar's martial art skills in Nikhil Advani's next film, which may be called "Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo". The slick flick will be shot entirely in Shanghai. "We've signed Deepika opposite Akshay. I think they'll make a great pair. More than that she suits the part completely. She has lots and lots of action stunts to perform in the film. Deepika has to match Akshay fist-for-fist, stunt-for-stunt," Advani told IANS.
As for the title, "We want to call it 'Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo' (to go with the Shanghai ambience).(But) I think there is a copyright problem. We're trying to solve that."
Advani is very excited about shooting in Shanghai. "No Hindi film has been shot there before. We've already zeroed in on the areas where we'll be shooting."

50 lakhs for three days, Midday

That’s how much a camera cost Ajay Devgan for his home production

Looks like Ajay Devgan is going all out to make sure his directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum is a success. We’re told that the actor rented an expensive camera predominantly used by Hollywood filmmakers for three days, which cost him half a crore! A source working on the film reveals, “Ajay is very particular about the equipment he wants for each shot. This is the first time an Indian film will be using the services of this particular camera, called Flying-Cam.” In demandAjay and his team used the camera for three days while shooting on a cruise liner. “It is very difficult to get aerial shots when you’re filming at sea. This device is actually a small helicopter with an inbuilt camera. It works on the principle of close range aerial filming,” adds the source. Interestingly, renting the camera isn’t an easy option. “One has to book the Flying-Cam well in advance. It’s in huge demand for Hollywood films. The device has been used to shoot high profile climax sequences in the Harry Potter films, Mission Impossible 2 and the Bond films — Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies.” High cost of the camera is another reason why the camera hasn’t become common in Bollywood. “We rented the Flying-Cam at a cost of Rs 50 lakh for three days. It comes with a manual and an expert who supervises its usage,” says the source.

Aap Ka Suroor review in Rediff

AKS: Only for Himesh fans
Syed Firdaus Ashraf in Rediff

Aa aa acting mein teri, Jaan jaan jayengi jaan meri.
The rephrased lines from 36 China Town best describes Himesh Reshammiya's acting debut, Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee: The Real Luv Story.
Himesh's acting and the film's story is quite weak. Yet, AKS will work very well for audiences. Despite the film's shortcomings, it will not bore you.
Director Prashant Chadha has managed to balance the songs with the story, and also capture Germany beautifully.

Himesh plays a rockstar in the film, who arrives in Germany for a concert. A chance meeting with Riaa Bakshi (Hansika Motwani) who is his event manager in Germany, results in love at first sight. There's no background to HR's life -- there's no reason why he fell in love with Riaa or why he was single all the while before he met Riaa.
To play spoilsport in their love story comes Ruby James (Mallika Sherawat who has also fallen for Himesh. But of course, he's not interested in her.
The story goes that a television reporter is murdered in Himesh's room, and he gets arrested. Now, he has to prove his innocence to the world and to Riaa's father (Sachin Khedekar). If he cannot, Riaa will be married off to someone else.
The story is very ordinary. What saves it is the music. All the songs have been well-placed in the film, so that you never lose interest.
Hansika Motwani does not impress. Her emotions are restricted to excessive smiling or crying.
Himesh's sidekick Shravan does good work.
More screen time for Mallika would have made the film better. She rocks in Sholay's Mehbooba song.
Himesh is too stiff and needs to loosen up if he wants to continue acting. He has a good screen presence, but at times, looks too conscious in front of the camera.
Anyway, like Himesh promised in his interview, the reason for him not smiling is revealed in the course of the film.
If you are a Himesh fan, Aap Kaa Suroor is a must-watch. If not, avoid
Rediff verdict: ***

Aap Ka Suroor review in Rediff

There are many reasons to make a film but when the reasons are to explain why Himesh Reshammiya always wears a cap or why he never smiles, then God save us!
Two years ago, Himesh and his childhood friend Prashant Chadha decided to make a video of the smash hit single Aashiq Banaya Aapne, featuring the singer-composer. What followed was an unparalleled success story. Now, we have a film that tries to explain the cult of Himesh Reshammiya aka HR.
Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee: The Real Luv Story is about HR, a widely successful rockstar now on the German leg of his world tour. He is a simple God-fearing, non-smiling cap-wearing Indian, who imagines his dream woman in a salwar kameez even though she's walking up to him in a pink party dress! HR not only hears the Gayatri Mantra every time he comes face to face with Riyaa, he also hums a jazzed up version of it when he realises he's in love.

In between singing at every occasion and trying to save his izzat from his man-eater manager Ruby (Malika Sherawat), HR manages to get embroiled in the murder of a television reporter. The dead girl's father (Raj Babbar) is convinced that HR is the killer. So is HR's prospective father-in-law (Sachin Khedekar).
Now, it's up to HR to prove his innocence, otherwise Riaa would get married off to someone else.
The film offers nothing except a bad concoction of everything avoidable -- bad acting, clichd dialogues, terrible one-liners and a cute terminally ill kid who smiles her way into our hearts.
The much-talked about Mehbooba song featuring Himesh with Mallika has no connection with the film's story.
The movie suffers on so many fronts that after some time, you lose the number of problems just like I lost count of the number of caps Himesh sports. He hams his way through the film as if he started acting in the 1980s but finally completed the film 20 years later. Even the songs offer nothing new.
The rest of the cast is passable. Hansika Motwani aka Riaa tries to look cute and manages to successfully employ the same done to death 'am so cute' nuances. But I could not understand why she was trying to copy Sushmita Sen !
Raj Babbar has four scenes, two of them featuring him in the same place, watching the same TV report and holding on to the same emotion.
The film seems disjointed and it's evident that the people behind it just wanted to cash on the Himesh wave. Why else would nicely photographed songs be separated by an inanity trying to masquerade as a script?
The only thing worth remembering in the film was Himesh's sidekick mentioning commenting: 'Agar naak cut gayee, toh gana kaise gayega?' Well, Himesh still has his khatarnak for that

Cheluvina Chittara Review

Director: S.Narayan
Producer: S.Narayan
Music: Mano Murthy
Cast:Ganesh, Amoolya, Komal, Sureshchandra, Asharani

Brilliant director S.Narayan seems to have lost his magic touch, as his latest film Cheluvina Chittara, a remake of that brilliant Tamil film Kadhal is unimpressive and lacks nativity.
Madesha (Comedy Time Ganesh) is an illiterate mechanic of two wheelers. He falls in love with Aishwarya (Amoolya) a school going girl rich girl, daughter of an affluent man in the area. The lovers elope and Komal helps them arrange for fake documents for a registered marriage. Aishwarya’s parents are on their trial. Just after register marriage and tying the sacred Mangalasutra on a footpath, Aishwarya's uncle tracks them down the young couple. Promising that everything would be fine, Madesha and Aishwarya are brought home where a major shock awaits them.
There is nothing new and it is a morbid love story with a presentation as old as hills. Comedy Time Ganesh has to immediately rethink about his career and not accept this type of inconsequential subjects. Amoolya looks too young as in real life also she is studying in 9th standard. Komal is the only saving grace of this film.
Mano Murthy gives three lovely tunes and continues to be the king of music in Kannada cinema. The original tune scored by Joshwa Sridhar – a pathetic song is very well composed. Chetan has sung ‘Janumadha Gelaya….’ in Kannada. Das has once again given excellent cinematography.

Kamal Hasan's daughter Shruti is ready with her album

Shruti Hassan is all excited about her forthcoming music album, which is getting ready for an early 2008 launch. When asked what the album is about, Shruti says: "It's my kind of music; the key is in expressing it, with some Indian elements thrown in it".
Shruti is trained in Hindustani classical music and went on to study music in Los Angeles. Her favourite is Madonna and metal music! Though acting is in her blood, as the daughter of Kamal Hassan, the finest actor in the country and Sarika, she is in no hurry to do a film. However she will do a film or assist dad, sometime in future. She has already sung a song for Dasavatharam under the baton of Himesh Reshamaiah.
At the moment, music and her forthcoming album are Shruti's top priorities. Her dad is her big inspiration and role model. Kamal knows more about music, than any other artist in Indian cinema! He understands the nuances of classical as well as pop music, and has also an ear for good music.
Last week as a part of Shruti's musical research, Kamal took her on a great learning experience to meet the 'Guru' himself MSV, one of India's greatest music directors. M.S Viswanathan ruled the airwaves for several decades and still has a large and ardent fan following worldwide. MSV ruled Tamil film music during the golden era (50's to late 70's) along with Kannadasan, T R Ramamurthy and K V Mahadevan.
MSV recovering from a cardiac surgery was convalescing at home in his sea-side apartment in Tiruvanmayur in Chennai. MSV was very pleased to see Kamal who came to inquire about his health, accompanied by Sruthi. MSV who vibes well with Kamal, had a great time chatting with the father and daughter. The maestro also gave Shruti some valuable tips, which we are sure she will incorporate into her vast repertory of musical notes.

Hema moved by Dharm's role in Apne

Hema moved by Dharm's role in Apne

Hema Malini, who is candid about thoroughly disliking some of Dharmendra's new films, was moved to tears by his role in "Apne" in which he co-stars with sons Sunny and Bobby Deol.
"After a long time I've seen Dharamji in a movie that I've really liked. It's so nice to see all three of them in the same film together. Audiences have waited so long to see the whole family in one film and they won't be disappointed," Hema said.
"After so long Dharamji is in his element," said Hema, adding that she was appalled by some of the films that her husband was seen doing lately like the one opposite Bollywood siren Mallika Sherawat in "Kiss Kiss Ki Kismat".
"He should only do what he feels comfortable doing. I'm very happy with what Dharamji has done in 'Apne'."
But "Apne" is a half-complete family saga. The other-half of Dharmendra's family - Hema and her two daughters Esha and Ahana - are not a part of this much-touted family film.
"Never mind. Maybe we'll all be together in the next Deol production. Right now I'm not doing any films. The offers that I get aren't tempting enough," she said.

Lonely celebrities, Mumbai Mirror

All those lonely people
by Subhash K Jha

It's a very real, very tangible and terrible dilemma. To be a super-successful and marriageable showbiz celebrity is like looking at a life of ceaseless bachelorhood and loneliness. Sounds really awful…but that's the truth."Who will I marry?" Ekta Kapoor often says, whenever I act the concerned elder brother. She is 30 and ready to marry. And she has a point. How can we even begin to imagine a suitable groom's existence for television's resident tycoon? We first have to look at Ekta's success ( gasp!) , then her bank balance (gasp, gasp) and then her inability to sublimate her ego in a marital situation. And that's precisely what has happened with most of super-successful heroines down the years. Barring a Saira Banu, Nargis (who by the way, epitomises the understated beauty of a marriage on the rebound) or Sharmila Tagore, none of the actresses I know, or not know, has been in a successful marriage……Or even a marriage. "Whom could I have married?" Asha Parekh echoes Ekta. "I was a nice maiden . But I was never an ice maiden. Of course I had a man in my life. But marriage was impossible. I couldn't settle for some successful star-struck Gujju from my community who would have been worshipping the ground beneath my feet when all I'd want was for him to worship our alliance."Marriages between fans and stars are a sure journey into disaster zone. Do you remember poor Mukesh Aggarwal? He married the diva Rekha briefly. The brief wedding ended in grief with Mukesh hanging himself with his wife's dupatta. So what do all my 30-plus friends do? While Raveena after much of a search for the sach is happily-married, Urmila says she wants me to find her someone in Patna. Ekta has all but given up the thought of marriage. Sushmita wants marriage too. I want it for her too. I've promised to sit on the mandap and do her kanyadaan along with her dad. But who on earth would dare to marry the stunning Sen? And I use the word 'dare' with much care. Elsewhere marriages might be made in heaven. In filmdom they are charted by far more pragmatic circumstances. Is the spouse as successful in his own field as his star wife? Even if he is, how do we guarantee that he won't feel left out when she's busy being mobbed or just facing the camera? It happened with the Saif-Rosa relationship. He would be out shooting. She stayed at home, did dance and music practice , watered the plants, cooked her spaghetti and finished her snooze. Then what? Saif was made to feel a constant anxiety for being the more successful busy and in-demand partner in the marriage.Celebrity marriages last only when one of the pair decides to take the backseat. Arbaaz Khan doesn't mind if his wife is the head-turner between the two of them. On the contrary he encourages her to go out there and make her presence felt while he stays at home to play with their son. No wonder the Arbaaz-Malaika marriage has lasted longer than most filmdom alliances. Open and forthright Mumtaz, one of the hottest and most underrated star-actresses of Indian cinema, admits her marriage is about compromises. Diamond merchant Mayur Madhvani plonked her in the lap of luxury. Mumtaz who in any case, was tired of working since the age of 12, happily snuggled into it. But then…ennui struck. The same happened with the gorgeous Dimple. Each time the superstar Rajesh Khanna and she quarreled she apparently reminded him of the post-Bobby career she threw away for his sake.I wonder if Madhuri Dixit ever throws in her voluntarily aborted career each time she fights with Dr Nene! The ravishing Raakhee Gulzar was clearly told she had to choose between a career and marriage. She chose Yash Chopra's Kabhi Kabhie.Today Jaya is dermined to see the Ash-Abhishek marriage hit all the high spots without the wife having to make any work sacrifices. This is one marriage which is going to work. Among the two, who would feel more threatened by the other's super-stardom? It's hard to say.

Blog on Get Gorgeous, Midday

It’s Day Three in Goa and the models’ bitching and complaining has reached new heights. The little diva wannabes started whining from Day One about the “food situation” — even before today's announcement that Deanne is putting them all on special diet food for the rest of the competition. For the first two days, they could eat the same food the judges and crew were eating, but apparently, in the time they had to wait between the courses, they'd get hungry all over again.Nina’s taking it the worst. She’s snapped at the hotel staff a couple of times and keeps making digs at Arika about her age. She even told Deanne that what she’d really like to eat is Butter Chicken. The girls are also irritated by the rules, the camera, the work, their tiredness, the weather, the sun, the make up, homesickness, missing their boyfriends, no network coverage and even each other. The incessant complaining is starting to grate on my ears. And it’s not doing much to help them impress the judges either. I haven't been told who’s going home. This is scary for me, even though I’m not part of the competition. I’m stressed out! So if you wanna know who it is that is shown the door, tune into Channel [V] tonight at 7.30 pm.

No means no! Aamir Khan Aamir Khan has quit smoking. The actor recently revealed on his blog that he had stopped lighting up. On Sunday June 24, in reply to a query from one of his fans called Shabbir, the actor has replied with, “I have quit smoking.” A source close to the actor confirms, “Aamir stopped smoking around six months ago. He was never a chain smoker, but would light up occasionally. Especially when he was busy with any sort of creative work. His decision to give up on smoking was his own. I don’t think anyone asked him to kick the habit.” But seriously...Aamir even imposed a smoking ban on the sets of his latest production — Taare Zameen Pe. Khan had a strict No Smoking rule on the sets. An actor who worked on the film reveals, “Aamir was quite serious when he requested actors and other technicians not to smoke on the sets. He had no issues with anyone smoking when off the set or location. But he didn’t want people walking around the sets, smoking.” For the kidsAnother reason for Aamir’s ruling was the presence of children on the sets. “Aamir treated the kids on the set with lot of love. He pampered them with treats and made sure they were quite comfortable. And he didn’t want them to be exposed to bad habits. He used to even pull up crew members who broke the no smoking rule, or used abusive language when in the presence of the children.”

New Mallika Sherawat, in Midday

'I am a greedy b***h!'

We’ve found the new Mallika Sherawat. Ram Kamal Mukherjee talks to Sherlyn Chopra about some ‘steaming’ issues

Frankly speaking, I didn’t want to meet Sherlyn Chopra aka Mona Chopra aka God Knows Who. I’m sure no journalist worth his ink would want to waste it on her. “I know, people think I’m sleazy and cheap,” she reads my mind and opens the conversation. I was intrigued by her frank approach. As the conversation progressed, I was even a little impressed. Because here’s a girl who not only speaks her mind but is also intelligent. Read on to find out for yourself. Your last release, Red Swastik, bombed. Should you still be here? I think I deserve another chance to prove my talent. In this industry people give twelve chances to star kids, so they can give me one more! I realised that the film would flop when director Vinod Pande released it in shoddy single screen theatres. No one even reviewed the film, so how could you expect people to watch it? The publicity made it look like a sleazy film. Agreed? Lots of people thought it was a sleazy film. The publicity design made it look like a sex flick. When I confronted the director, he said he was going to do a press meet in Kolkata. I refused to go to Kolkata with him. ‘Who cares a f**k about Hindi films there?’Why did you debut with a film like Red Swastik?I’ve also played a bimbette’s role in Times Pass, but Red Swastik takes the cake! (Laughs) I remember meeting Shiney Ahuja when I was about to sign Red Swastik at Vinod Pande’s office. Shiney started his career with Vinod’s film, Sins. When I told him that I was working with Vinod, he smiled and wished me luck. Looking back, I’ve realised that it was a sarcastic smile that meant, “God help you!”It seems you are publicity hungry.Every actor has a publicity vehicle. Being a newcomer, I’ve realised the importance of being in the news. I believe in branding and I’m a greedy b***h. One controversy can fetch you month-long publicity. I want more, so I have no qualms about going the extra mile. All I have to do is not be politically correct. Are you single?Yes, and it’s been a while. I think falling in love is a sheer waste of time. You don’t miss a man in your life? What would a man do for me? Touch me and make me feel like a woman? I feel like a woman with or without a man. You think exposing will help you get good projects? In India, if you flaunt your body people make you feel miserable and like an outcast. Give me a break! I know I have a good body and I know how far to go and where to stop.If I’m topless and holding a fish to my bosom, it’s not obscene. If any international model does it it’s considered a bold move, but when I do it it’s labelled cheap. Come on! Are your parents supportive about your Bollywood aspirations? My father and my mother never wanted me to be a film star. She wanted me to become a doctor. I am not in touch with my brother, who lives in Auckland. He didn’t even invite me for his wedding. They don’t want to be associated with me. They feel Bollywood is a big mistake. So, are you getting offers after Red Swastik? Are you crazy? Everyone thinks I’m a C-grade star. But I will now work harder to get A-grade directors. I’ve met Madhur Bhandarkar and even he suggested that I must associate myself with good people. I made a mistake and now I am here to rectify them. You are also set to cut a music album…Yes. It’s going to be a kick ass album. Prahlad Kakkar might direct the video and T-Series might release the album. It will have six tracks and one remix. I want to release this album by the end of this year. You call yourself Chopra, but you are Christian by birth. Explain this! I think my mother had an affair with some Chopra (laughs)… Jokes apart, I really don’t know why my surname is Chopra. I’ve asked my mom, but she never gave me an explanation. It’s a mystery even to me!

Ajay Devgan in Delhi, Midday

Kya mamu banaya!
by Vickey Lalwani in Midday

Delhi junta mistakes Ajay Devgan for real-life cop and beats co-actor Ashish Mohan thinking he’s a thief

Recently, while shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Sunday in Delhi, one of the film’s actors was beaten up by the public courtesy co-star Ajay Devgan. The actor, who plays a police officer in the film, was chasing Ashish Mohan (also an assistant director on the film) down Chandani Chowk on a motorbike for a scene when the Delhi junta mistook him for a real-life thief. As a result, Mohan was beaten up black and blue! Bachao!A unit source informs, “The public literally pounced on Ashish when they saw he was being chased by a cop on a bike. Initially, Ashish thought somebody was playing a prank on him and screamed for help but the public was in no mood to listen. Rohit Shetty finally had to intervene and control the situation. Later, Ajay checked up on Ashish to see if he was alright.” The source explains that the public was unable to identify the actors and that’s why it went out of hand. “Ajay was wearing a helmet and a police uniform, so the public mistook the scene for an actual chor-police chase.First, two men got off an autorickshaw and caught Ashish by the collar. Seeing this, some roadside romeos too joined in to beat Ashish.”Hidden camsDirector Rohit Shetty confirms the incident and says he was shooting the scene with hidden cameras. “It’s very difficult to shoot in Chandani Chowk. At any given instant, there are over 1 lakh people present, so we decided to shoot with hidden cameras from a certain distance. I wanted the actors involved in the scene to go all out in the chase and normal cameras would’ve alerted the public to what was going on,” he says.Freeze frameWhen Ajay saw the public reaction, he froze in his tracks. But a few seconds later he burst out laughing. “My assistants and I ran to save Ashish and explained to the public that we were shooting a film. They did not believe us since they couldn’t see any cameras around but we managed to convince them,” Shetty adds.A crewmember adds that the public in Delhi is extremely unpredictable. “We had to protect Ajay and hence made him wear a helmet. As for other actors, they shot most of their scenes indoors. There’s another scene where Ajay wasn’t required to ride a bike, but still he came to the venue wearing a helmet. We had to shoot adjacent to the Jama Masjid and it’s a very crowded area, so we instructed Ajay to ride the bike all the way from the hotel to the Jama Masjid,” says the source.Sunday is produced by Ajay’s secretary-turned-director Kumar Mangat. The film, scheduled to release in November, stars Ajay Devgan, Ayesha Takia, Irrfan Khan and Arshad Warsi.

Vikram is back! in CNNIBN

Chennai: He didn't have a single release in 2006 but Tamil actor Vikram will soon be back in theatres in the forthcoming film Bheema.
So, when we caught up with the actor at the recent launch of Filmfare in Chennai, the obvious question was about his long hiatus from the big screen.
“You will be surprised that I have got about seven projects all lined up and ready to go. That's why I took this time off. Now I'm going to be bombarding you with movies and you are going to say Vikram stop, stop, that’s enough!” Vikram said in good humour.
But what the actor is really excited about is the project that he has just signed with the Sivaji girl Shriya.
“I think it's the right movie for me to do right now. It's a wonderful mix of entertainment and heroism with performance also. Lots of ideas are thrown in well. It's a film that you can't just see once, you'll have to see it at least three times,” Vikram said.
While actresses from the South have been heading to Bollywood for decades now, the actors haven't really made a mark and Vikram, too, is not going to be changing that perception anytime soon.
“I have got about 17 offers and I have not taken it up. I don't know Hindi for starts and I feel more excited about doing films down South. Anyways, the heroes in the North do watch my films and they speak to me and I get my kicks that way. I don't really have to do a Hindi film and struggle with the dialogues,” Vikram said honestly.
Well, bad luck for Bollywood but Tamil film buffs seem to have quite a lot in store from this versatile actor. Courtesy: CNNIBN

Heroes flirt with me! says Ameesha Patel in HT

My actors love to flirt with me: Ameesha Patel in HT

Ameesha Patel may have found the love of her life, but she admits that she doesn't mind a little fliratation from her co-stars. In fact the actress finds it weird if no one ogles at her while shooting.Says the lady amusingly: "In fact, I like people who flirt with me. If some co-star doesn't pay attention to me while working, I begin to feel that either he is throwing attitude or there is something wrong with my dressing sense."Adds she: "But, I don't allow anyone to exceed the limit. I allow people to stare at me, talk to me and even share some romantic things as much as they want but I don't want anyone to come close to me or touch me.""I know, I am young and beautiful and it is only natural that people are enticed with my beauty and looks."The actress adds that she might have turned 30, but still manages to look like a young girl of 19 or 20. She also admits that it is because of her good looks, even her co-stars cannot resist the temptation to flirt with her.Says Ameesha: “I don’t want to name one actor but most of them who I have worked with in films have flirted with me. Some have even asked me out while others have complemented me for my beautiful eyes and hair. But to be very honest, I never went on a date with anyone in my life.""I never had any guy in my life, who took me out for candlelight dinner and with whom I roamed around hand in hand. I have done it in the films but I am yet to experience such moment in my life. Of course I have gone out for movies, but not with a particular guy but a group of friends.”Ameesha also clears the air on her relations with Vikram Bhatt saying that he is her man of dreams. Says she further, “There is not problems in my relationship with Vikram Bhat. He has all the qualities of my dream man. He is everything for me.”

Himesh Reshammiya vs Deols

Himesh asks the Deols to "back off"!
This could be the clash, which may turn into the crash of the titans.
Himesh Reshammiya's acting debut "Aap Ka Surroor" has unexpected competition from the fringes.
The Deols have decided to release their ambitious joint-family saga "Apne" Friday (June 29), the same day the much-awaited "Aap Ka Surroor" will make it to the cinemas.
Is this just the 'guroor' (pride) to counter Himesh's "Suroor"? It looks like it.
Himesh personally requested the Deols to re-schedule their magnum opus. But the Deols paid no heed.
"Yes, I did request them to come on another Friday. But they refused," says the capped composer. "I respect their decision. I'm sure they've their own reasons for coming on June 29.
"I think our film is very small compared to theirs. It stars Dharamji and his two sons, which means it has 300 percent box-office clout whereas my film has an untried singer-turned-actor whom the whole world is waiting to rip apart."
However, Himesh has a trump card.
"'Apne' is apna film too. I've done the music score for that film. And I'm very proud of my songs. Yes, I do admit I'm partial to 'Aap Ka Surroor'. It's very special to me on many counts."
He pauses to consider the repercussions. "I think June 29 is going to be a very decisive Friday. Not only mine and the Deols' film but Mahesh Bhatt's 'Awaarapan' is also being released.
"That film too is special to me. It stars my friend Emran Hashmi ... I think June 29 will disprove the myth that only one film at the most does well on any Friday."

Madhuri Dixit in Koffee with Karan

Karan: How does it feel...you know you are back after such a long time...do you feel things have changed in the industry...the work ethics...things like that?

Madhuri: Yes...simple things
Karan: Like what
Madhuri: Like… you know you have a whole bound script...
Karan: And that didn't happen during your time?
Madhuri: Oh no, it didn't...sometimes we used to go on the sets, we didn't even know what we were going to say in the scene...we used to get the dialogues right then...
Karan: Last minute
Madhuri: Ya...last minute...learn them and just say them and the whole economics was different at that time of film making...and I think because of the corporate kind of culture that has come in now, it's great, because everything is so organised now
Karan: Everything is streamlined...
Madhuri: Everything is disciplined ...you know it is worked out before hand...what the scene is going to be and what you are going to wear...what you're look is going to be...everything is set for you ...it is so easy for the actors.
Karan: What else has happened is, this whole emergence of the paparazzi and the media... don't you think?
Madhuri: That has shocked me
Karan: Like what
Madhuri: I was invited for this opening and I saw this barrage of cameramen and the press was like falling all over each other...and I was like what is happening …
Karan: And that wasn't the case earlier
Madhuri: No, it wasn't... I mean there were a few photographers...same familiar faces who used to be there everywhere to cover… but now it's like you know new people, new faces and I went to this Siddhivinayak temple...
Karan: Oh ya… they have the tendency to follow people at that particular temple
Madhuri: Ya, you know...I came out and it was like… oh my God, and I thought my kids are going to be scared and I was holding on to them… but you should have seen my little one...
Karan: What did he do?
Madhuri: He was fluttering his eyes and smiling and my other kid was also enjoying all that attention…
Karan: But darling, he is an actress' son, he has got it in his genes Madhuri: That's what my husband says..."bachche kiske hai"
Karan: Actresses like Rani and all are huge fans of yours...
Madhuri: Ya, she has told me that
Karan: Have you seen her work?
Madhuri: Yes, I have, and I think she is a very good actress… I have always liked her...and I envy her in a way... because my dad is a big fan of hers
Karan: Really?
Madhuri: Ya, really
Karan: You must see her in Black...she is fantastic
Madhuri: Ya, I should
Karan: What about your male co-stars, have you met them all, after you came back?
Madhuri: No, not all of them, because everybody is busy... but, I have met Shah Rukh and I think he is only co-star I have met.

After being harassed by immigration officers at the international airport in Mumbai 10 days ago, Shilpa Shetty was detained once again, when she was leaving for Turkey on Tuesday night. The situation was much the same. The authorities told her she couldn’t leave the country as there was a look-out notice for her, she explained she had a Supreme Court reprieve; they refused to believe her until she produced the papers, (which she wasn’t carrying). What followed was hours of questioning and harassment. Again.Shilpa and her mom were also detained on her return to Mumbai from London. “It was so bizarre,” Shilpa exclaims. She says, “It would’ve been perfectly understandable to see the immigration officers doing their jobs well and I’d be the last person to come in the way of authorities doing their duties. But we patiently showed the clearance papers while leaving. And still we were questioned when I returned.”Sounding a little upset, Shilpa said, “How does it feel to be treated so suspiciously in your home after being treated like a queen at an event in a distant foreign country? I guess I am no stranger to being given a raw deal at home, but still it hurts.”Shilpa feels that she is being targetted. She says. “Whether it's an innocuous costume or an innocent kiss I'm being hauled up all the time. Arrest me if you believe I'm guilty of any offence. But I can't walk out of the country each time with a piece of paper in my shivering hands to prove I'm as free to travel as thousands of others, at the airport.”

Mallika Sherawat Aunty, Midday

Aunty mat kaho na!

By: Vickey Lalwani

When Mallika Sherawat refused to let Hansika Motwani share screen space with her in the Mehbooba number of Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap Kaa Surroor, the teenager got back at her by calling her ‘aunty’!

Teenage actress Hansika Motwani and Mallika Sherawat, the two leading ladies in Himesh Reshammiya’s debut film Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee, are at loggerheads. A cold war has been brewing between them for a while now, so much so that they don’t even exchange pleasantries anymore. When Himesh approached Mallika for a role in the film, she made it clear that she didn’t want to share screen space with Hansika in the Mehbooba song. Cooling her heelsA khabru from the set reveals, “Mallika’s nakhras are not new. They’ve now become a part of her professional life. While Himesh abided by her condition for the Mehbooba number, he refused to do away with Hansika in the Teri Yaadon Mein song. Mallika agreed, but reluctantly.”Things between Mallika and Hansika went downhill after Motwani landed up at Mehboob Studio on June 2, to shoot the Mehbooba song. “Himesh had wanted Hansika in the song, but Mallika had laid down her conditions before doing the film. Hansika was ready to shoot when she came on the set but then she was told to cool her heels. Of course, she felt low but did not create a fuss. However, she couldn’t hold herself back from seeing the shoot so she stayed on the set for a long time,” says the khabru.Later, when Hansika and Mallika shot together for the song Teri Yaadon Mein, Sherawat continued to maintain her distance from the young actress. She even refused to shoot pictures with Hansika. “That’s why stills of Teri Yaadon Mein do not have both the actresses together,” says a crewmember. The khabru goes on to add that Mallika agreed to do this role only because she is a big fan of Himesh’s music. “She wouldn’t have done it otherwise because she doesn’t like playing negative roles. She gelled very well with Himesh, who in turn gelled very well with Hansika. Hansika calls Himesh HR, which is also Himesh’s name in the film.”Catty remarkAnd what does she call Mallika? “Oh, don’t even ask! During the Mehbooba shoot, Hansika was talking very loudly to a crewmember about Mallika. Everybody except her heard Hansika say, “Mallika aunty!” Thank god Mallika wasn’t nearby, else fireworks would have exploded that day!” says the khabru.Himesh Reshammiya was unavailable for comment. His film, Aap Kaa Surroor, releases on June 29.

Shilpa Shetty harassed, Mumbai Mirror

Harassed!
Shilpa Shetty was detained at the international airport for a gruelling two hours before being allowed to go to UK to attend the IIFA awards

Shilpa Shetty had a harrowing time at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport about 10 days ago, while on her way to the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) function. The emigration authorities refused to let her head for London saying that a `look-out' notice had been issued in her name.A look-out notice is issued in criminal cases and is served at exit points of a country, alerting security agencies to stop the person, in whose name the notice is, from moving out of the country. In Shilpa's case, a court in Rajasthan had issued a look-out notice on the actor in an obscenity case. Shilpa had appeared along with Hollywood actor Richard Gere at a charity function in Delhi some months ago, and TV channels blew it out of proportion when Gere kissed Shetty in a public.

Although the actress moved the Supreme Court and got a relief against the look-out notice, it had obviously not been communicated to the security agencies at the airport.According to sources, when Shilpa reached the CSI airport, she was stopped at the emigration check desk. "We had a look-out notice in Shilpa's name, and there was nothing wrong if the men on duty stopped her," said a senior Mumbai Police official, who did not wish to be named.A desperate Shilpa tried to convince the emigration authorities that the Supreme Court had already granted her relief in the look-out case, but the authorities simply refused to listen to her. They asked her to produce a copy of the SC directive, but Shilpa was not carrying it with her, sources said. The harassment continued for over two hours. It took almost two hours for Shilpa to convince the emigration authorities to let her talk to her father and get a copy of the SC directive. Later, her father reached the CSI airport and furnished a copy of the SC order, following which emigration authorities allowed Shilpa to proceed to UK.Dale Bhagwagar, spokesperson for Shilpa Shetty confirmed the incident. According to him, Shilpa's father, who was also travelling with the actor, was carrying the SC order which he showed to the authorities, after which the actress was allowed to proceed to UK.

Aamir, what's that?, Midday

Aamir Khan's not exactly a style icon, but he's never been a bad dresser either. Which is why we nearly fell off our chairs in shock and then laughed when we saw these pictures of his overly 'stressed out' jeans.Seriously, what's with that prominent checked patch bang in middle of such a 'sensitive' area? If Kiran Rao hasn't been censoring the hubby's wardrobe before he steps out we think it's about time she starts!

However, in no time he spotted Tabu, who was chilling out with her friends at the club.” Heat waveSources reveal that as soon as Upen saw Tabu, he went up to her and started chatting.“They may not have hung out together before, but from the body language it was clear that they were enjoying each other’s company. Tabu seemed to be a in good mood and was giggling and laughing a lot,” says the source. Onlookers were quite shocked when after a while they saw Upen kissing Tabu. “It wasn’t some random kiss. They seemed to be quite into each other. In fact, they were even seen kissing on their way out of the club!” Paired upWhen asked about the rendezvous with Tabu, Upen says, “Tabu is a senior actor and I respect her a lot. I would not like to comment on a story like this.” Whatever. We are wondering if this is a new Bollywood coupling in the making?

No sleeping, Johnny boy!

Director Anurag Kashyap made Abraham work 48 hours non-stop because he needed him to look tired for a scene in No Smoking

John Abraham might just find a place in the Limca Book Of World Records thanks to his new film, No Smoking. Recently, director Anurag Kashyap made Abraham work for 48 hours non-stop because he wanted the actor to look weary and exhausted for a particular scene. The only way Kashyap could achieve this with the fresh-faced actor was to ensure he overworked him!Curious According to our source, Anurag wanted to shoot a crucial scene and was thinking about ways to get the best shot from John. After brain storming for a while, he came up with the idea of exhausting him. “Everyone in the unit thought this was impossible for an actor to do, but Anurag didn’t want to give up,” says our source. “He went up to John and told him that he needed to finish a couple of scenes within the schedule and it would be great if he could work non-stop. John is an extremely professional actor, so he readily agreed and Anurag started shooting.” The shoot went on for over 24 hours and John was curious to know when Anurag was planning to wind up the shoot. “He was inside the studio for 24 hours and the technicians too were working alongside to get the desired result. John didn’t complain even once,” says the source.

Two days off
Finally, after 48 hours of non-stop shooting, John become really tired and it showed on his face. That’s when Anurag decided to shoot the scene he’d been overworking John for. “Everyone was happy with the result and Anurag gave John two days off after that!”Kashyap admits he was a bit inhuman with John. “I’ve heard all sorts of scary stories where stars refuse to work beyond eight hours, and I was just wondering if John would agree. But he was really sporting. It’s a fact that John stayed awake for 48 hours and looked really tired. He worked really hard for the film and that will come across convincingly on screen,” says Anurag. Produced under the banner Big Screen Entertainment banner and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures, No Smoking also stars Ayesha Takia, Paresh Rawal, Ranvir Shorey and Sanjay Singh. Vishal Bhardwaj has composed the film’s music with lyrics by Gulzar.

Sivaji, one of the most talked about Tamil films starring Rajnikanth, will make its international release in 20 theatres across the US on June 15.

However, Rajni fans in Bangalore are in for a disappointment since the film releases in just four theatres across the city. The dubbed version of Rajnikanth's magnum opus along with director Shankar and music director A R Rahman will also be released simultaneously in Telugu.

Much needed vacation
After every film, Rajni heads to the Himalayas for some rest. And this time too, after the two-year-long shooting of the film, he went to visit the temples in Badrinath, Kedarnath and the Babuji Cave. After a hiatus of 38 days, he is finally back in Chennai. Soon after reaching Chennai, he headed to AVM studios and requested a screening of the film. Immediately a screening was arranged for Rajni, his wife Latha, daughters Aishwaryaa and Soundarya and son-in law Dhanush. He seems to have said just one word after the screening, "Fantastic." Meanwhile director Shankar too has left for Canada with his family for a vacation.

Under the hot sun
Eager fans are waiting in long queues in Chennai and Bangalore to pre-book the tickets. In Chennai the bookings are not available at most of the theatres for almost two weeks after the release.

Breaking records
Typically, even hit films with leading actors have about 130 to 140 prints. Rajnikanth's previous film Chandramukhi had more than 160 prints. However, Sivaji has already broken a few records having about 600 prints.

TV rights
The yet to be launched Kalaignar TV channel has already bought the satellite rights of Sivaji, which will be telecast three years after its release.

Rajni's Chandramukhi breaks all records

Rajnikant's film Chandramukhi breaks a record held for 73 years by running for 800 days in cinema halls

S Suresh Kumar in MIDDAY Bangalore

Rajnikant's Tamil film Chandramukhi has been running in the theatres for as many as 800 days already and it still has an audience. The demand for this film has broken the record created by the previous all time hit Haridas, which starred the late Thyagaraja Bagavathar. The film was released in 1944 ran in the theatres for 770 days.

To celebrate this new record created by the Chandramukhi team, Shivaji Productions has planned a grand party on June 25. Team members Ram Kumar and Prabhu approached the chief minister of Tamil Nadu to be the chief guest.

Of late, a film crossing its 50-day mark itself is a tough task, what with all the innumerable number of problems faced by the industry. For a film to complete as many as 800 days is a big deal.

After the failure of his earlier film Baba, Rajinikant was desperate for a blockbuster. When he watched Kannada film Apthamitra, which starred Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Arvind and Soundarya, he decided it would be the right film for his comeback. And the remake, Chandramukhi, proved him right too.

Apthamitra too happens to be a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. The film was directed by Fazil in the year 1993 and starred Mohan Lal, Shobhana and Suresh Gopi.

Chandramukhi

-Rajinikant portrayed the character Saravanan as a psychiatrist.
Prabhu and Vadivelu also pitch in with their accurate comic timing. Jothika's best work is seen in her role in Chandramukhi.
-The use of the famous dialogue Laka laka laka in complete Rajinikant style is the ultimate in the movie.

All about Haridas

The multi-talented late Thayagaraja Bhagavathar played the lead in Haridas. T R Rajakumari played his leading lady.
At that time, there was a footage restriction (of about 11,000 ft) on films because of the war.
The Royal Talkies distributed the movie and the film created the record box office hit in Tamil Nadu. The film ran for more than 110 weeks in Chennai.

Multi lingual
There's got to be something about this film. While it's Kannada version, Apthamitra, did extremely well, Chandramukhi in Tamil and Telugu fared well too. Now, director Priyadarshan has decided to remake this film in Hindi.

The film is called Bhool Bhulaiya and stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja.
